No. 3 McKENDREE WRESTLING TEAM OPENS UP 2009-10 SEASON AT LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY OPEN

(ST. CHARLES, Mo., Oct. 30)- The No. 3 McKendree University wrestling team opened up its 2009-10 season at the Lindenwood University Open on Friday.

The Bearcats were led by runner-up finishes by senior Aaron Winning (Highland, Ill./Althoff Catholic) and junior Andrew Sanchez (Shiloh, Ill./O'Fallon) at 174 pounds and 197 pounds, respectively. Winning posted a 3-1 record and lost to Jordan Blanton of the University of Illinois in the championship match by fall in the first round of sudden victory. Sanchez also posted a 3-1 record and lost in the championship match to Patrick Bond of the University of Illinois in a 5-3 decision.

Sophomore Kyle Reid (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) posted a 5-1 record and finished in third place at 184 pounds by defeating Clarence Neeley of St. Louis Community College by major decision 10-1.

Freshman Kyle Hanner (Wood River, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) posted a 3-2 record at 174 pounds and came in fourth place after losing to Lindenwood's Robbie Hicklin by decision 8-5. Fellow freshman Marquinten Bryant (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) finished in fourth place at 149 pounds with a record of 4-2 after losing to Matt Lester of the University of Oklahoma by fall in 1:51.

McKendree will host No. 14 Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Tuesday, November 3rd at the Melvin Price Convocation Center at 7 p.m.
