GRAY PACES McKENDREE VOLLEYBALL TEAM TO CONFERENCE SWEEP AT STEPHENS

(COLUMBIA, Mo., Oct. 30)—Junior defensive specialist/outside hitter Lindsay Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) enjoyed a big night in leading the McKendree University volleyball team to a sweep Friday night at Stephens College. The Bearcats took the best-of-five contest by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-19.
Gray notched a season-high 10 kills and led the way with 14 digs in the victory. McKendree improves to 16-12 overall and 10-4 in American Midwest Conference play. The Bearcats will complete their weekend swing through mid-Missouri Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at William Woods University.
Against Stephens, junior outside hitter Tara Ryterski (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) and sophomore right-side hitter Kaitlyn Kollmann (Collinsville, Ill./Metro-East Lutheran) each chipped in with eight kills. Sophomore setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) handed out a team-best 18 assists, while junior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) was right behind with 17 sets.
Sophomore hitter Melinda Bayer (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) registered three assisted blocks as junior middle hitters Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) and Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) each added two assisted blocks.
McKendree completed the season sweep of Stephens with Friday’s victory. The Bearcats also collected a sweep over the Stars (7-24, 3-12 AMC) back on Oct. 1 at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
