(COLUMBIA, Mo., Oct. 23)—Senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink registered a match-high 13 kills and six service aces as the McKendree University volleyball team posted a three-set sweep Thursday at Stephens College. The Bearcats cruised to victory by scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-13.
McKendree moves to 14-13 overall and 8-4 in American Midwest Conference play. Stephens slips to 10-20 on the year and 0-11 in the league. The Bearcats also completed the season sweep against the Stars, having already earned a sweep back on Sept. 23 in Lebanon.
With her 13 kills, Kombrink (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) stands on the brink of becoming the fourth player in program history with 1,000 career kills. Kombrink pushed her career total to 997 on Thursday. Kombrink’s six service aces give her 173 at McKendree, which is 15 shy of the career record of 188, which is held set by Melissa Dorsey.
Senior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) helped out in the McKendree victory with 25 assists, while sophomore defensive special Lindsay Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) registered three service aces. Junior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) handled a team-leading 15 digs, and junior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) was right behind with 14 digs.
Senior right-side hitter Lindsay Amerson (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) had four blocks, and sophomore middle hitter Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) posted three blocks.
The Bearcats will remain in the mid-Missouri area for another AMC match on Friday at William Woods University. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
