(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 28)—For the second time in 2008, McKendree University senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink has been honored as the American Midwest Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. The award was announced Monday evening by the conference office.
Kombrink (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) reached one career milestone and neared another last week as McKendree posted a 1-1 record. On Friday at William Woods University, Kombrink became just the fifth player in school history to reach the 1,000-kill mark. With 29 attacks last week, Kombrink pushed her career total to 1,008. She also edged closer to the McKendree team record for career service aces. Kombrink had nine on the week, giving her 176 in her four-year career. The Bearcats’ current career record for service aces is 188.
In addition to her 24 kills and nine service aces, Kombrink registered 15 digs and nine blocks. Through the end of play last week, Kombrink leads McKendree with 268 kills, 45 service aces and 106 blocks. She also paces the squad with a hitting percentage of .425. She was an All-Conference and All-Region selection as a junior in 2007.
The McKendree University volleyball team has an overall record of 14-15. The Bearcats are 8-6 in AMC play.
