(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 8)—Katelyn Kombrink of McKendree University has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 1-7. The honor was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Kombrink (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) got off to a strong start in the Bearcats’ first five matches of the 2008 season. She registered 51 kills in the five matches, averaging three kills per contest. She hit a stellar .506 for the week, which currently leads all NAIA players. Kombrink pushed her career total to 791 kills, which is just 10 away from the No. 5 spot on the Bearcats’ all-time list.
In addition to her hitting statistics, Kombrink had 24 blocks – including 13 solos – with nine service aces. She now has 140 service aces at McKendree, which is fourth all-time in the team’s record book. Kombrink had 43 of her kills in four matches to earn All-Tournament honors at the Mazzio’s/College of the Ozarks Invitational last weekend in Point Lookout, Mo.
The McKendree University volleyball team has an overall record of 3-2. The Bearcats will open American Midwest Conference play Tuesday at home against Williams Baptist College. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
